No one likes job-searching. No one.
I applied early, in February, March, and then looked again in April and heard back from two employees. One already gave away the positions when I arrived for the interview, and the second never gave me the interview. So I've gotten desperate. Applying at minimum-wage positions, hoping for a full-time reply, and have received nothing. I have over four years of post-secondary under my belt and can't even get a reply from Petland. I've gone back to my roots, my I-grew-up-on-a-farm-and-did-fencing-weeding-labour-jobs self, hoping for more than 11 an hour in a glorious Monday to Friday labour position. We'll see. Anyway, my cover-letter and resume are stapled and ready for my interview at 1:30 today.
It's strange being out of school. I've read a book and a half (read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and am in the middle of Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood), continued to watch episodes of Lost, and have started a work-out program. I started waking up at seven, which is earlier than I woke up almost all semester. It feels good (until about four o'clock when I crash). I wrote a poem and sat in a room of poets and received praise. That also felt good. And yes, I did get together with a group of poets, drank wine, ate chili, and shared our latest work together. We're planning on getting together 'formally' every month. I have received some ridicule from this, but I think it's great. I got all my marks back, and two hit the nineties, which is an achievement I have always wanted to obtain and am very proud of. They are helping to off-set that 51 I got in my first semester. Yep. A 51.
The only thing I'm lacking is art-work. The board covering the wall in our bedroom protecting it from stray darts is still less than half-way finished. I need to pick up some more white paint and I'm good to go.
And Osama Bin Ladin was killed. I can't help but think that all this celebration will only provoke further turmoil. I'm not sure if people are expecting anything to change, or end, but if they are I think it's a bit ridiculous to suspect there are not people able and ready to step up to replace his leadership. Not that I support anything Osama Bin Ladin did, by any means. I'm just saying.
