I'm good at saving, but I've never really had any money to save. Of course, being at my stage of life, there's always plenty to pay for. Car, rent, bills, food, education. But I'm saving. A certain amount of money, most of, what I make in tips goes in a little secret place that is gradually but steadily building toward a contribution toward my and Daniel's honeymoon. We don't know where we're going yet, but that adds to a bit of the excitement. All I really know in no less than 3 months and no more than 6 we'll have gone somewhere for at least a week, that isn't in Regina, or Saskatchewan, or Canada, likely. We've got our passport information ready to go so I can update my name and marital status, and he can ... get a passport. It's exciting.

I can't stop thinking about where I would like to potentially live after I'm done school. I'm quite positive it won't be in Regina, and likely not Saskatchewan at all. But there are so many variables. The biggest is probably Daniel, making sure that he also wants to live in the same place. Then work, of course, which might be an even bigger variable. It has to be a place where both he and I have work and are happy there. Then there's family. My whole family is congregated all around the city of Lloydminster, but who knows if they will all stay there permanently or not, forever. Regardless, family is in the equation. Do I want to raise a family, someday, not near my family. Do I want to only see my family every couple of months? Do I want my nephews and potential other nephews and nieces to grow up barely seeing me? Should I be entirely selfish, a little selfish, or not selfish?

In the words of the great philosopher, Ayn Rand: "Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness, not pain or mindless self-indulgence, is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values."

Ayn Rand also thought altruism is bs and selfishness is the only way to live life, it is how we have evolved, survival of the fittest. Then there's this whole religious thing I've grown up with, teaching things like putting others above yourself, doing things for the betterment of others, sacrifice.

Humph.

  1. the answer is selfishness. that's what I did and it has worked for me so far. worrying about others is a lost cause, like government and hydrogen powered cars.

thanks for the job leads. i would love to work at a Hindi travel agency.
